Center Advisory to Tech Companies: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued an advisory related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) for tech companies. The ministry also strongly criticized social media platforms for misuse of AI.

It was said in the advisory that companies related to Artificial Intelligence will take approval from the government before launching their AI products in the country. Along with this, all the intermediaries have been asked to immediately follow the advisory and submit action-cum-status report within 15 days.

What did the government say in its advisory

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology says, all intermediaries/platforms are advised to ensure compliance with the rules related to harm caused to users due to AI – misinformation, especially deepfakes.

The government has also said in the advisory that AI-based content should be released with some permanent meta data or some other identification, so that if it is used in any fake news or deepfake, its creator can be identified.

‘Strictness needed before launching the product’

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that it is very important to do this for a technology like AI because there is no protector of this technology. We are moving towards a system where much more strictness is required before launching a product. The Union Minister said that even if any AI model is to be launched in the market with the label of ‘under-testing’, it will still have to be approved by the government.

Only after that an advisory regarding AI has been issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
